It is St. Patrick’s Day 2024 and I am excited to release my Lucky Day Dish Scrubby crochet pattern! I have also created a dishcloth pattern to match the Lucky Day dish scrubby and you can purchase it for $2 in my Etsy or Ravelry store.
I guess I am on a spring cleaning kick lately. I’ve made a few dishcloth and scrubby patterns over the past few weeks that I will be sharing here on the blog soon.
Prior to creating this pattern, I had never worked from a cone of cotton before. I still don’t think I have the hang of it but it was different. I saw this Peaches & Creme yarn in the store and immediately gravitated towards it. I picked it up and bought it without a thought. Later, when I got home, I saw the name, “Happy Go Lucky.” The purchase of this yarn ust so happened to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day weekend so, I went to work.
I wanted to create something very simple yet useful. I wanted to make something that correlated to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day but wasn’t a real seasonal item. I think I succeeded. When I first picked this yarn up, I thought, “this would make a good yarn for summer patterns,” and I still think that. I can’t wait to see how many different things I could work up with this gorgeous yarn.
Peaches & Creme Original is a worsted 4 weight yarn in 100% cotton. I used my G (4.5mm) hook to create the dish scrubbies and my H(5.0mm) to crochet the dishcloth.
These scrubbies and the dishcloth were made with simple stitches and simple repeats. It is a beginner-friendly pattern that incorporates only single and double crochet stitches, however, you will need to know a few things to work these up:
- How to make a magic circle (watch tutorial here)
- How to single crochet and double crochet in the back loop only (SCBLO, DCBLO tutorial)
- How to work the invisible join at the end (watch tutorial here)
Along with knowing a few techniques, you will also need the following supplies to create the scrubbies:
- 100% cotton, worsted 4 weigth yarn (I used Peaches & Creme in Happy Go Lucky)
- A G/4.25mm or 4.5mm crochet hook (I used a 4.5mm)
- A darning needle to sew in the tail
- Small scissors
Abbreviations Used
ch – chain
mc – magic circle
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
scblo – single crochet in the back loop only
dcblo – double crochet in the back loop only
The Pattern
Round 1: Begin with a magic circle (MC), ch 1, and sc 12 into the MC, sl st into the first sc and ch 2 (ch 2 does not count as a st) (12 sts)
Round 2: Place 2 dc in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st of round, ch 1 (24 sts)
Round 3: 1 scblo in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st of round, ch 2 (24 sts)
Round 4: 2 dcblo in each st around, join with a sl st to the first st of round, ch 1 (48 sts)
Round 5: 1 scblo in each st around, join with invisble join to the first st of round (48 sts)
That’s it! These simple rounds of crochet will add a lot of sparkle and pop to your kitchen sink and make scrubbing dishes a little more fun!
